Therapies I Offer
Covering Merseyside | Liverpool and Wirral
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended by NICE guidelines
It teaches you (the client) coping skills for a range of problems.
It focuses on your Thoughts (often distorted), Beliefs (often outdated), and Attitude (often from misunderstandings, fear or shame).
It is effective for a variety of problems. You will learn how to cope with problems thereby
relieving your symptoms. CBT can help you make positive changes to how you feel and act.
The first session involves an Assessment / Case history.
Subsequent sessions involve reviewing the previous session and continuing to deal with your issues and making sure I understand I am still ‘on track’ and accurately reflecting what you bring to the session.
Therapy usually last for 6 – 8 sessions but can be variable.

Trauma Focused CBT Therapy (TFT) is a form of CBT specifically adapted for Trauma and PTSD.
The important thing about trauma therapy is to make the client (you) feel Safe and Secure after having been involved with or witnessed a traumatic incident.
It involves an initial Assessment / Case History.
The therapy is designed to help you make sense of the trauma and to discuss your thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and the impact it is having on you.
How have these changed since the trauma?
Have you isolated yourself from family, friends, colleagues, management?
Do you feel alone and not able to talk about the trauma?
Have you experienced flashbacks?
TFT exposure to the trauma will gradually be introduced at your own pace. It will not be on the first session.
The therapy will involve looking at your common reactions to the trauma and your perspective.
What coping skills (if any) have helped you?
Therapy usually last for 12 sessions, but can be variable.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
CFT emphasizes the cultivation of compassion and self-compassion to promote emotional healing and wellbeing. It helps clients develop a kinder and more understanding relationship with themselves.
I help clients with why and how shame is linked to self-criticism. Some clients find it difficult to feel reassured and safe. They might feel anxious, angry, frustrated. All these emotions may be going on at the same time and can be very stressful.
Compassion is often about developing courage to face up to our anger and work with it (Professor Paul Gilbert, 2010).
I share with clients – Acceptance and Tolerance. Being a human being means having a full range of both positive and negative emotions.
Incorporated into CFT is Mindfulness. (paying attention to the present moment without judgement).
I also offer clients Mindfulness relaxation techniques.
Sessions last for up to 6 sessions, but can be variable.
